Today has been a complete and utter failure. Never has an event such as this been such a waste and insult to my time. The evening started off pleasant enough, with Lord Blackmoore apologizing for putting me under house arrest. I confess I was a bit too harsh to him, his intentions and rationale was good, and in his place I would have done the same. This apology was followed by the good general Mallor attempting to go to the event with armor and weapon. A humorous sight, shadowed only by Lord Blackmoore’s face when he saw her. The armor she was allowed to keep, the weapon was ordered to be stowed. The newly added to our leadership, High Priest Hector Lewis, went to the party in the halfling’s stead. I assume our spymaster was feeling ill from his encounter with, from what I ascertained listening to his drunken ramblings, was an elf. Hector is a priest of the god of knowledge. A fitting choice of high priest. I will have my arcane academy work alongside his priesthood. I can see a mutually beneficial relationship brewing between our charges.
We finally arrived at this… event, and I wasted no time finding the caretaker of the darkwood tree, leaving Hector, Jezebel, and Lord Blackmoore to fend for themselves. The conversation was going well after I saved him from a rather dull minor lord. Then, the ignorant withered corpse HINDERED MY RESEARCH FOR HIS OWN SELFISH ENDS!
That fool will pay dearly for his arrogance. I seek wisdom, knowledge… THINGS THAT BETTER ALL OF CIVILIZATION. I have brooked the insults of those who would deny the understanding of magic for far too long. HOW AM I TO WORK LIKE THIS?
I digress, the others seemed to have a good time. Lord Blackmoore and Hector chatted with Isolde from House Winters. Apparently they are are greatest rival, and she is the new head of household despite lacking a blood relation to the prior head. She stormed off flustered from their discourse, so it seems he got the best of her. Jezebel was scouring the room with some sort of faint divination magic active. Luckily due to my arcane sight I was able to see this. I don’t know what or who she was looking for, but apparently she found one of the minor lords, and a castle guard to be of particular interest. Perhaps she was looking for someone as odd as herself, but those two did not seem as aloof as she. I noticed that Hector took a bit of interest into the knight guarding Isolde, but I do not think a man such as that would be interested in his religion. He seems far too single-minded.
The final insult was given after the feast. The king spoke to his bannermen, telling them they had two years time to prepare for war, and he told us what he plans to do with the tree. He plans to use it against The Kingdom of Gracewald, as but a weapon. A weapon? They claim it to be capable of removing their magic, but they plan to use that tree as a weapon? WHAT ASININE, BASE ASPIRATIONS!
I would see the tree studied and utilized to understand magic in its entirety! They plan to use this as a weapon? BAH! What short-sighted foolishness. If I were allowed to study it I could accomplish such a trivial task and much, much more. It is this sort of utter lack of understanding that caused me to leave the Arcane Academy. They seek to learn and use magic, but they care not to understand it. This tree could hold the key to knowing the deepest secrets of magic itself, and they plan to utilize it in some war? I cannot stand these fools. Am I the only wizard that wants to understand magic? Am I the only one who wishes to divorce it of the mysticism? I will find another source than this short-sighted king to obtain darkwood. NO MATTER THE COST!
I digress again, Lord Blackmoore is on board with this war, so I am as well. Luckily he agrees to help me procure the darkwood from the elves. We travel back to Northlake in hopes to rebuild and prepare. I will see my academy built. The Academy of the Material Arcane will someday be more than a dream. For now I help House Blackmoore in hopes that someday we find the capacity to build my academy, then I shall stock it with great minds such as myself. Some day.
